🌀 FAQ 🌀
How do I book a reading?
Clicking on the “book a reading” button (or here) will direct you to submit a booking request via email. I will follow up within a few business days with payment information and a booking link for you to pick an appointment time that works with your schedule. My rate for a 60-minute tarot reading is $92, which may be payable via Venmo, Zelle, or Paypal.
What can I expect from a reading?
I conduct most of my readings virtually through Zoom. For these sessions, we will spend some time talking through your situation at hand and refining your question. Then, I will shuffle and randomly pull some cards and arrange them in a predetermined spread that we have chosen together. Once the cards are arranged, we will discuss the images they show, and how I interpret them in response to your question. Every reading is completely unique, random, and specific to you. If requested, I will send follow up recordings of tarot sessions via email.
My reading style is approachable, heartfelt, intuitive, and direct. In other words, I’m a real person who lives in the real world with you! I like querents to come away from a reading with clear next steps to enact or ponder in response to their question. I don’t spiritually bypass or use generative AI in any part of my readings or spiritual practice. Why is a tarot reading useful?
As reader Hannah Joy Graves says, a tarot reading gives us an opportunity to “pause, connect, and reflect.” The cards cut through the noise and into the heart of the matter - reflecting our fears, hopes, dreams, worries, roadblocks, and desires back to us in a way that speaks directly to our conscious and unconscious minds. A skillful and experienced reader serves as a kind of spiritual translator, distilling the images and symbols you see in the cards into a coherent message that responds to your specific question.
A tarot reading is more like a mirror for your inner world than a crystal ball that predicts the future. Many querents find it incredibly powerful and moving, even life-changing, to experience this kind of resonance. People use the experiential information they get from a tarot reading as a catalyst towards real psychological and material change. It is a potent and effective tool for personal growth, healing, self-reflection, and transformation. It’s more than just a cool party trick - we’re talking to an oracle!Do you do events?
I love to read at events! I have read tarot at local events in the mid-Hudson Valley, including at Unicorn Bar and at Harana Market’s Queer Prom. I’ve also participated in the Golden Dome School’s virtual Tarot-Thon for Immigrant Justice. I read at weddings, retreats, bachelorette parties, corporate events, and more. Event readings are generally 10-15 minutes per querent to accommodate demand. I have a two hour minimum for in person events with a starting rate of $100 per hour. I’m happy to provide more information on how I can cater readings for your event, including custom spreads, via a free 15 minute consultation call. Reach out here.
I don’t know what question to ask! Is that a problem?
Part of my job as a reader is to understand the situation you are bringing into the reading and work with you to formulate it into a question that the oracle can effectively respond to. Generally speaking, open-ended questions that speak to broader themes and patterns in your life are better suited than specific yes or no questions. Journaling prompts often make for great tarot questions. For example, a question like “What is important for me to know about my relationship with my partner right now?” will give you more high-quality information to reflect on and work with moving forward than “should I break up with my partner?” If you don’t have a specific question, we can focus the reading on more of a general check-in with what I like to call a “tarot weather report.”
I’m nervous! Should I be?
It’s ok to be nervous! In my humble opinion, my reading style is well-suited for tarot beginners and nervous nellies. I am a trauma-informed reader, which means that I encourage the querent’s autonomy and self-responsiveness throughout my readings. If something painful for you comes up in a reading, I won’t avoid or bypass it. Part of what makes a tarot reading so powerful is the way the oracle can nonjudgementally reflect painful emotions or experiences back to us in a way that we may not be able to confront so plainly in our day-to-day lives. My job as a reader is to work with you to integrate your emotional responses into the context of the reading with as much thoughtfulness and care as possible.
What even is the tarot?
The tarot is a deck of 78 cards that has been used for divinatory and spiritual purposes for hundreds of years. The tarot was made popular in the West with the publication of the Waite-Smith deck at the turn of the 20th century, which features now-iconic illustrations created by mystical artist Pamela Colman Smith. The deck is split into 22 Major Arcana (Big Secrets) and 56 Minor Arcana (Little Secrets) cards. The Major Arcana, often referred to as “The Fool’s Journey” is an archetypal sequence that represents each stepping stone in a person’s path towards fulfillment of their soul’s calling. The Minor Arcana are divided into four suits with elemental correspondences, Wands (Fire), Cups (Water), Swords (Air), and Pentacles or Coins (Earth). Each arcanum’s illustrations and symbols have accrued meanings from spiritual practitioners and diviners all over the world and across cultures. The tarot is portable, living art that connects us to these spiritualists across time and space. We can use it today as a mirror for our own lives.
Why you?
What a bold question; I’m so glad you asked! The short story is that after purchasing my first deck nearly ten years ago, I picked the tarot back up in 2023 and never put it down. I dove head-first into a full blown passionate love affair with these magical and mysterious images, pulling cards daily, learning about tarot history, and furiously studying card meanings from modern and historical perspectives. My relationship with the tarot has shown me the depths of my esoteric nerd-dom. I also had the privilege of completing a 16-month Study Tarot Series cohort run by my tarot mentor, shea in the catskills (highly recommend!). By far, my favorite way of experiencing the tarot is through reading for other people. It’s my honor and joy to translate the oracle’s messages for you!
